The Start

This is the beginning of a demo for my students.  The start of a painting is so critical.  At this stage design, value and color are established.  All my students hate their paintings at this point.  When I ask why, they say "It's not pretty".  So focused are beginning students to the end result that they set themselves up for failure.  It's like baking a cake...you can't decorate it until it's baked, cooled and frosted before the piping bag comes out for the final details.  My final touches are reserved for the last 5-10% of the painting.  Build strong structures and the details will literally be the icing on the cake.
  Happy New Year!

Most importantly, at this stage you can see that it is structurally sound. I already love it!

Was thinking about you the other day and delighted to see you are back at it again...Or have been at it and are sharing again....Either way, you are so talented and can tell what a great teacher you would be! Here's hoping for an easy peezy fun 2013 with lots of time for you! Take care!
