Nothing like going out to explore painting opportunities.  Leslie Saeta recently invited me to join her for the day.  So off we went and discovered a lovely field of workers picking strawberries.  I think I barely waiting for the car to stop before jumping out to capture this lovely scene.  That moment didn't last long.  A guy in a pickup quickly came to us and told us we couldn't take photos.  We explained that we were artists and wanted pictures to paint.  He told us again that we couldn't take them.  Not wanting to start a fight, we "agreed".  Go back in the car, drove 3 feet, jumped out again and starting taking more pictures.  What can I say...no stopping artists on a mission.  Thanks, Leslie for a fun day.

Exactly 2 months ago today I arrived in California.  It has taken me a little while to settle down at the easel.  I've spent this time acclimating to my new home and all the different colors & scenes that are before me.  I've always taught my students to spend time looking at their subject before blindly diving into their painting. I'm glad I took my own advise.  So excited to see what direction my art will take over the next few years.

Mountain Evening

Just painted 6 small paintings today.  Head spinning, paint spattering and wet canvas everywhere!  I don't ever paint this many in one day but had a momentary thought that I needed a few different small pieces for the show this week.  No more listening to these conversations in my head.  I'll probably wake up in the morning and hate all of them.  The good news is that my light faded and I had to put the brushes down.  Sometimes God shows up just in time.

This is one of my first "almost" daily paintings that I never posted.  I'm currently painting for the show in a couple of weeks but didn't want to not post a painting.  I'm having a blast (even under a tight deadline) painting.  Started out with thinking I was going to paint in certain direction and have completely gone in a different manner.  I will post some of the show paintings as I finish them.  Stay tuned.

Seeing a theme in my work lately.  The last several paintings are of places along the coast or water.  Guess I'm feeling a bit landlocked this days.  Wishing spring would permanently arrive with constant sunshine.  Also, sometime this week I will have few "fun" announcements.  Just ironing out a few details & then I'll be able to share them with you.  Thanks for following "Fresh off the Easel".
