"Pears & Grapes"
Oil on Paper
10x10 Reserved
Here's another in a series of paintings that I've been doing on paper. This painting has an luminosity that I like but still haven't quite "hit" the mark. Somehow it is tighter than I wanted and I'm missing some thickness of paint. I'm trying to be very direct in my approach and getting the essence of the subject. Not sure I will stay with the paper but it certainly has pushed me to not overwork the subject. Any thoughts?

Lovely Kelley! And especially like the contrasting colors.
I really like this Kelley! It looks fresh and spontaneous. Really lovely.
Oh, beautiful. It almost has a watercolor feel. Love how the pear disappears into the shadow on the left.
Kelley, this piece has a quality that I have not seen in your work before...and I cant quite put my finger on it. I love it...I love the colors and the way the brushstrokes lay on the paper...a grounded luminescence. Please explore more...play more...produce more with this paper. I am really liking these pieces.
Kelley, I really love everything about this piece...you expressed everything without overworking anything...!!
very nice!
I really love this one! The colors are just gorgeous and the cool colors in the background really make the fruit pop. Lovely!
This has a very fresh look to it that is very appealing. Beautiful painting!
What kind of paper are you painting on?
Thanks, George. For this piece I used a new paper called Multimedia Artboard. I'm kinda liking it.
I love pear paintings and this one is especially elegant in it's simplicity. Love the painterly quality. Almost looks like watercolor. Guess it's the paper. Congrats.
I'm in agreement with everyone - this is a great piece. It's very fresh and clean, with a perfect simplicity. I like the very light background strokes, too.
Is the pape smooth or does it have a tooth? I love the colours you've used.
Any thoughs? Yes, don't change a thing. This works! Curious too if this paper has a tooth?
Johanna & Bridget, this paper has a slight tooth. The multimedia artboard has a smooth and "rougher" side. I used the rougher side.
Very beautiful Kelley...soft, sensitive and dream like quality!
So simple, but I love this piece. I agree with Julie, a different quality in this one.
I agree with everything that has been said above! A beautiful painting - I especially like the unusual composition, but really everything about it!
